CHEEROTH THARAVADU

Its ancestral origin is based at Mullassery. The present generation knows the history of Cheeroth family from the days of “velu”, the grand old parent of present generation. When the family expanded leaps and bounds Paran & his brothers, the sons of Velu decided to part with the base at Mullassery and decided to settle at a convenient, calm and quiet place. They found their choice at Puthur, a small place coming under Kaiparambu village in Thrissur District.

Paran & his two brothers started living in a small house following the joint family system. They were not educated. However ,having abundance of mutual cooperation, love & affection between themselves the family flourished day by day. It is believed that “Changaram Kumarath Achan”,the god of Cheeroth family based at Mullassery was not happy in His abode at Mullassery and decided to quit the base & settled at Puthur Bringing prosperity to Paran and family.

The present history of Cheeroth family starts with the days of Paran. The invisible presence of “Changaram Kumarath Achan or Cheeroth Achan” and his guidance was the basis of the prosperity of this family. Identifying this fact Paran and his family decided to give Cheeroth Achan a fitting tribute to HIM, by constructing a small sanctum and Sanatorum and installing his idol. From the day of consecration there was uninterrupted daily pooja.

The family consists of
1.Paran
2.Ayyappankutty
3.Krishnankutty
& their children

Paran is having 4sons & 1 daughter. In the joint family the sons were following the principle of division of labour… Among the four sons Cheeroth Achan was pleased with Shankaran’s spirituality & in his 14th year of age he started showing mystical powers. Even though he is an illiterate he got the powers of prophesying once future, foreseeing the dangers one may encounter and the solutions for preventing these. People from different places, different walks of life started pouring in seeking solace.

The family owns one bus service also named Cheeroth

CHEEROTH POORAM

The family poroam is being celebrated every year on Makharam10th. Initially with 3elephants and Cheeroth Rajeev adorning the main deity on his forehead. People from different places gathered to participate in good numbers. Those days were the days of poverty among very majority of people. The family used to give all the participants irrespective of caste and creed a feast. Just to get this feast on the pooram day, people thronged the temple. This practice of giving feast to the people is being followed even now.

When the family expanded further it is decided to have separate families to each brothers. Four houses were built in the same compound, the temple being in the middle and houses on both sides so that pooram can be conduct in the central compound. One brother, the youngest, departed from this earth and the remaining three brothers are still in the helm of affairs. The present generation takes much interest in sustaining the traditional values of the temple and the festival is being celebrated with pomp and pleasure.

CHEEROTH RAJEEV

The infant elephant who was 5year old stepped into the Cheeroth family on 6-01-1965.. It played in the compound with the children of the family as one of the members .It was the collective decision of the family to name the infant as”Rajeev”. Rajeev was brought fame to the family due to his calm and serene behaviuor and the elegance in the pooram festivals. There was not even a single incident of violence from his part during his entire life. This famous tusker adorned the deities on his forehead during the festivals of important temples like Guruvayoor SreeKrishna Temple, Edakkalathur Durga Devi Temple, Thirivanikavu Temple etc… Rajeev was lucky to adorn his forehead with the omnipotent Sree Guruvayoorappan for 10 consecutive years. The elephant lovers still have the memories of the tusker with Paramekkavu Bhagavathy on his forehead. The end of this famous tusker was tragic. While coming back from Nenmara Pooram he encountered a road accident when a lorry hit on its back. Sill it survived 7years participating in different festivals until he succumbed to the inevitable fate of departure from this world and entered into eternity on 11-6-2004.The family still commemorates his death anniversary. Even though Rajeev 2nd entered into the family, the absence of Rajeev has created a vacuum.
